Waxing lyrical!

Have started trying some encaustic art ... and I'm hooked already after only 3 artworks.

Really enjoy the range of techniques it offers. 'Cartrouble' is my first encaustic artwork, a homage to one of my favourite Adam and the Ants songs from the 70s. In hindsight, my approach may have been a tad ambitious for a newbie. I (eventually) grasped the basics of a few techniques - transferring photo images using inks and graphite, collage, stippling effects with the wax and using a stylus and heat gun ... with various cock-ups en route. I've shared the outtakes here ... sharing the pain.

Very pleased with how it eventually turned out though.

Since then, I followed up with two environmental artworks that have an element of encaustic in their creation. 'Save our seas (III)' and 'Save our seas (IV)'. These are focused on plastic pollution in our oceans and you can read more about the rationale behind them in my Environmental Issues gallery

Next up ... encaustic abstracts.
